The aim of the present webinar is to engage in a transatlantic dialogue on the use of automated decision-making (ADM) by consumers and/or traders. To this end, speakers will share insights on existing legal frameworks and their ‘readiness’ for the use of ADM, reflecting on the upcoming ALI Restatement on Consumer Contracts and recently published ELI Report on EU Consumer Law and Automated Decision-Making, which is an interim output of the ELI project on Guiding Principles and Model Rules on Algorithmic Contracts.

The discussion will be chaired by ELI President Pascal Pichonnaz of the University of Fribourg, and features speakers Florencia Marotta-Wurgler of NYU School of Law (Reporter on Restatement of the Law, Consumer Contracts); John Linarelli of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law (Adviser on Restatement of the Law, Consumer Contracts); Hans W. Micklitz of the European University Institute; and Jeannie Patterson of the University of Melbourne.

This program is expected to qualify for 1.5 to 1.8 CLE credit hours, depending on jurisdiction. ALI CLE programs are generally accredited in all MCLE jurisdictions. Credit in ID, LA, RI, and UT is available upon request.
